As a Donor
A. As a direct support to the person/family:
- A1. PATH (Providing Affordable Treatment for Hemophilia)
Its main objective is to help provide treatment of Hemophilia at affordable cost and prevent disability. Hemophilia treatment is very expensive. The only life saving medicine called Anti Hemophilia Factor (AHF) required in stopping the bleeds is made from human blood. That is why it is not affordable even by a very well-to-do family. A Hemophilia patient needs frequent infusions of AHF and there is negligible support from the government.
SHC India provides these life saving medicines on regular basis at half the market prices & on cost to cost basis. It is also provided free to the most deserving people and as the availability of funds permit. This is the biggest challenge for SHC India. A lot of financial support is required so that more and more people can have access to very affordable treatment under this programme.
Donor has direct contact with the beneficiary, if he wishes so.
- A2. SAVE a Life
The main aim is to provide awareness and treatment to the needy children in serious or life-threatening situations . If he is a school going child then the threat of frequent injuries is always hanging upon him. He bleeds most often. If he is not provided treatment, these bleeds are most often life-threatening.
The mortality rate in children suffering from hemophilia is very high. SHC India provides free treatment to such children on a limited basis due to very limited resources.
Donors can see the immediate impact of their support.
- A3. TEACH
A child with hemophilia very often bleeds into his joints which makes him immobile for considerable amount of time. He misses his classes. In order to keep pace with the class-work/studies he needs extra help at home during his illness. Getting him a tutor and self study material helps him in continuing with his studies even at his home.
The objective of this programme is to assess the educational needs of the affected children, help them in their needs by providing stationery, books and tuition fees.
Prospective donors interested in these initiatives are highly solicited to contact us for further details.
- A4. Donate A Rupee:
An effort not-so-heavy on a donor. If a person donates one rupee a day for a year, each one will contribute at least Rs.365/- in a year. This way hundreds of children suffering from bleeds can be supported to help them lead a near normal life.

B. As a support for Group Activities:
- B1. Hemophilia Awareness Programme:
Hemophilia is one of the least known diseases. It can be prevented at least in 2/3rd cases as they have a history. Those families where it exists can be educated to prevent it from further genesis as it is hereditary.
For this to happen, considerable awareness, medical education & diagnostic facilities should be accessible. The psycho-social issues need to be addressed through education & empowerment of sisters and mothers.
SHC India regularly conducts Awareness & Diagnostic Camps in various cities but many more such camps with greater speed & frequency need is the need of the hour.
Various types of publication material both print and visuals & in different languages are required on regular bases. Brochures/pamphlets/folders are printed as distribution material.
The affected person should know the management of his condition. "Control Your Hemophilia" series by SHC India is one step in this direction.
SHC India solicits sponsorships for such projects.
- B2. Hemophilia Diagnosis: Not many cities have hemophilia diagnosis available in their hospitals. A suspected patient has to travel hundreds of kilometres and through days before he can be rightly diagnosed. There is a need to have hemophilia diagnosis in at least every city having a million-plus population.
Due to lack of sufficient diagnosis only 15% of the affected population has been confirmed with diagnosis. We need support for facilitating diagnostic facilities in identified hospitals. For further details please contact us.
- B3. Economic Rehabilitation of Youth : A person with hemophilia cannot do a hard physical job. A desk job or some home-based work is most suitable measure for him to sustain his life needs. SHC India has done elaborate work on finding suitable jobs & work for them and some families have been successfully rehabilitated. But regular efforts for many more are required and expertise with financial support is required.
A more concerted and collaborative initiative is the need of the hour, may be on SHG pattern so that such youth are on their feet.
